Construction has been a major issue for the construction industry since the boom years of the 1970s, with major projects such as the LNG mine in Western Australia and the controversial Great Southern mine in South Australia being cancelled.
But it is not just the big projects that have been affected.
As the boom ends, the industry is still struggling to get its act together and fix problems.
Here’s how to fix it.
Key points: Construction has already been a massive problem for the industry since its peak in the 1970-80s, but a major boom in new developments is starting to affect the industry, experts say It’s not just big projects like the LNGL mine in WA that are facing problems, experts warn The construction industry is facing a major shift in its approach to cleaning and maintaining structures after years of being the most dangerous occupation for construction workers.
Construction has already become a huge issue for industry after the boom and the number of workers has increased exponentially.
It’s a huge industry and the problem is now more than people realise, according to the Construction Industry Union of Australia (CIOA).
There are many issues to work through.
There is no one way to do it and many things need to be done to get it right.
A new industry is also in danger.
“Construction is a hugely important sector to Australia,” CIOA chief executive officer David Gillett said.
There’s no one right way to clean up a construction site.
The major challenge now is finding a way to maintain and repair structures.
Mr GilleTT said it was essential the industry was working with other sectors such as manufacturing and agriculture to solve the issue.
He said it would be extremely difficult to maintain a new construction site in a clean environment.
‘We need to build something’ “It’s not enough just to build a new building, we need to create something,” Mr Gilletta said.
“If we don’t get a proper system in place for cleaning, the site will simply not be able to maintain itself and the workers will leave the site and go back to their jobs in the community.
For the first time, Mr Gellett said there was an industry that was taking responsibility for building structures.
”We need an industry to develop and operate the structures and we need it now, not in the future,” he said.
