How do you get an automated vehicle to do work that humans wouldn’t be able to do yourself?
That’s the question Uber and Lyft are asking in an effort to turn its automated taxi service into a cheaper, more efficient, and more reliable way to get around.
In a blog post on Monday, the two companies unveiled a new tool that lets users rent an Uber or Lyft car and drive it anywhere within their area.
The process takes just seconds, and drivers will be able take a few photos of their car before it’s dispatched.
When the driver is done, the vehicle will be returned to the rental company and the driver’s credit card will be charged.
While this is a great way to take a trip, it’s not an entirely foolproof way to save on gas.
According to Uber, you’ll need to make sure the car is insured before you use it, and then take a photo of the car.
The company also suggests that drivers pay a $5 deposit to the car rental company for each vehicle they’re renting.
To get a better idea of how this works, let’s take a look at how this feature works.
